Nayla al-Khaja, born on March 7, 1978, is a pioneering figure in the United Arab Emirates, celebrated as the first female screenwriter, director, and producer. Her cinematic works have garnered recognition at over 42 international film festivals. Al-Khaja’s journey began with her debut short film “Arabana” in 2006, earning her the title of Best Emirati Filmmaker at DIFF 2007. Over the years, she has crafted a remarkable portfolio of short films and made significant strides, with her first feature film “Animal” and a series, “The Alexandria Killings,” in collaboration with Oscar-winning Director Terry George. As the CEO of Nayla Al Khaja Films, she continues to shape the cinematic landscape, also founding Dubai’s first film club, The Scene Club, in 2007. Currently, Nayla is busy working on a family adventure film, “Magic Carpet,” and her highly anticipated debut feature film, “Three,” both set for release in 2022.
