Battery Charges Filed Against Cardi B After Mic-Throwing Incident

It appears battery charges have been officially filed against Cardi B for throwing a microphone into the audience. Here’s the latest.
On Saturday night in Las Vegas while at Drai’s Beachclub, Cardi B was up on stage singing when she was hit by a drink on stage. In the middle of performing her song, “Bodak Yellow” after the drink was thrown, Cardi B threw her microphone toward the same area the drink was thrown from, as recorded by Andrea Rojas.
Security responded to the drink and mic throwing tit-for-tat, while Cardi B remained on stage. This is not the first incident in which performers have been pelted by the audience throwing items on stage—but it is the first in which someone in the audience has filed battery charges against the performer. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department issued the following statement to Digital Music News:
“According to the victim, she was attending an event on July 29, 2023 at a property located at the 3500 block of Las Vegas Boulevard. During a concert, she was struck by an item that was thrown from the stage.” While the police department haven’t provided specific details, those general details match up with the venue’s address and the social media video of the event occurring.
Cardi B herself has not issued an official response to the mic-throwing incident. Since she didn’t hit the person who threw the actual drink, she could be facing legal issues. It’s also worth noting that during the performance, Cardi B did say she would like water to be thrown onto her.
Every performer has the right NOT to have things thrown at her on stage—but that statement does invite inconsiderate drunks to do what they do best—be inconsiderate. We’ll keep an eye on the situation and update it accordingly as the case progresses. Several other performers including Harry Styles, Bebe Rexha, and others have had phones and fans hit them in recent months.
